Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin is the latest Lunatic Leftist in complete and public denial about President-elect Trump’s victory in the November 5 presidential election.
On her November 19 podcast, Rubin talked about the Left’s inability to appeal to Trump voters, saying, “ … those people really have no idea what's going on and that means … you can't talk broad themes. You have to boil it down to nuts and bolts and you have to be pithy. What do I mean by pithy? How about this - ‘Republicans want to kill your kids.’”
So much nonsense. So much bastardized language to attack.
First of all, using the word “pithy” (“brief, forceful, and meaningful in expression”) is simply another way of saying that anyone who voted for Donald Trump is stupid. Since Trump voters are intellectually incapable of understanding complexity and nuance, we can only respond to language that has been “dumbed down” in advance. This a categorically untrue generalization that carries as much rhetorical weight as any other name calling campaign. (None.)
More importantly, Kamala Harris didn’t lose the election because she wasn’t pithy enough. Yes, her meandering, word salad interview responses were impossible to follow. But she and her staff made plenty of “brief and forceful” statements. Consider the following:
“Donald Trump is weird!” (Dems dropped this one after Tim Walz was selected as VP candidate. Wonder why?)
“Donald Trump is Hitler!”
“Donald Trump is a fascist!”
“Donald Trump is a threat to democracy!”
“Donald Trump is going to ban abortion!”
Plenty of pith to go around. Also plenty of nonsense. As I’ve written before, comparing President-elect Trump to Hitler or Mussolini is so extreme that the only people who believe it are the far-Left wack jobs who were going to vote for Harris anyway.
Claiming that Trump is a threat to democracy calls attention to the fact that the Left has consistently tried to infringe upon democratic ideals like freedom of speech (social media censorship) and freedom of choice (Harris being anointed presidential candidate without participating in the primary process).
The last two statements contain “slippery slope” reasoning so ridiculous that it wouldn’t hold up in an average freshman composition class.
President-elect Trump believes that individual states should establish abortion parameters for their residents. Pro-life residents in certain states may vote to limit abortions, or ban them altogether. If enough people vote this way in certain states, abortion will be limited, and perhaps even become illegal, in those states. If this process is repeated 50 times, then abortion will effectively be banned in the United States. This would be President-elect Trump’s fault for supporting individual states’ rights to legislate abortion. Therefore, President-elect Trump just banned abortion!
See how easy that was?
To Rubin’s credit, she maintained her idiotic line of reasoning while explaining ways in which Republicans want to “kill your kids”:
“If you're going to oppose vaccinations; if you're going to stop breakthrough medical research; if you're going to allow minors and all sorts of people to get semi-automatic weapons; which they use to shoot up schools; well, then, you are responsible for kids’ health and death.”
Questioning the science behind Big Pharma vaccinations does not kill kids. Responsible gun ownership does not kill kids, nor does advocating for Americans’ 2nd amendment rights in the face of a tyrannical government. (I’m not sure what “breakthrough medical research” Rubin thinks Trump voters want to stop, but I’m 99% sure that doing so won’t kill kids, either.) At best, Rubin’s statements represent more fear mongering and slippery slope reasoning.
Kamala Harris didn’t lose the election because she wasn’t pithy. She lost because she was terrifically unqualified and voters rejected her Leftist agenda. Saying ridiculous things like, “Republicans want to kill your kids” simply doubles down on the lunacy that lost in the first place. It’s a lousy strategy for bringing Trump voters over to your side, but it is a great strategy for helping common sense conservatives win more elections in the future.
Perhaps we should be thankful for that.
