Like countless other kids who grew up during the 1970’s and 80’s, my first exposure to grammar came through Schoolhouse Rock, an animated educational program that aired on Saturday mornings. To this day, I can’t hear the catchy jingle “Conjunction Junction, what’s your function?” without picturing a cartoon train yard where the conjunctions “and",” “but,” and “or” go about their business of “hooking up words and phrases and clauses.”
This heartwarming childhood memory makes it all the more disgusting that the lunatic Left is using the conjunction “and” to promote ridiculous lies about the Biden-Harris border crisis. When asked about the ICE statistics revealing that 13,099 convicted murderers have been allowed into our country under Border Czar Harris, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre babbled incoherently for about 30 seconds. (In all fairness, that’s kind of her thing.)
Then Jean-Pierre attempted to regurgitate one of the lunatic Left’s insane talking points: “If you look at the total returns and removal of the last year, that has been higher than every year under the previous administration, since 2010.”
On one hand, it’s interesting that a person in Harris’ position thinks Donald Trump’s “previous administration” served for 10 years, from 2010-2020. (Thanks, DEI!)
More insidious is the act of using a conjunction to make it seem like two words with different meanings are actually the same. As superstar conservative commentator Ann Coulter points out in her September 4 column (“Another Lie: Biden is Deporting More Illegals Than Trump”), immigration returns are different from immigration removals.
Coulter writes, “‘Return’ simply means ‘turned away at the border.’ Not letting someone in is not a ‘deportation.’ … The same illegal alien can be ‘returned’ 20 times a day. He’s free to keep trying and, once he gets in, he’ll face less than a 5% of being deported under the Biden-Harris regime … With those odds, there are a lot more foreigners showing up at our border. More open borders, more turn-aways.”
Yet even with all the additional illegal immigrants streaming across the border, Biden-Harris have deported (removed) FAR fewer than former President Trump. Trump’s administration deported 749,462 illegal immigrants during his first three years in office. Under Border Czar Harris, that number drops to 273,768.
Unfortunately, those numbers paint an all-too-accurate picture of Biden-Harris’ plan to open the border and destroy the fabric of a society that has thrived for almost 250 years. In a feeble attempt to hide that mission from voters, the Left combines immigration removals AND returns to create a delightful nugget of misinformation. (Where’s censorship-loving John Kerry when you need him?)
“Conjunction Junction, what’s your function?” Answer: Joining words and phrases of equal importance, not advancing regressive, Marxist policies.
Correct Usage #1: “Kamala Harris has been a failure as Vice President AND Border Czar.”
Correct Usage #2: “Either a gym shoe OR a pencil could govern as effectively as the Biden-Harris team.”
Correct Usage #3: “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are destroying the United States, BUT they’re hoping the voters won’t notice.”
